Using Abrasive Belts over Discs



Abrasive Belts SAVING YOU MONEY!

 
 Using abrasive belts on your tools over discs can reduce work time! Can save you money in work time and abrasives cost savings! Belts are often cheaper then discs of the same grit and quality. When you are using belts you do not have the swirl marks you have when you use discs. You are setting the grain for the finishing process. Changing belts is easy on and off with expander wheels and you can reuse the belts till they are burned up like discs. Plus using your tools another way to Save you Money! Use these tools, expander wheels, and abrasive bands to grind welds on stainless steel, polish stainless steel, and provide a #4 finish (32RA or below).

  1. Can you use these in context with metal fabrication? What exactly do you need an abrasive belt for? I'm just looking around from some home DIY projects, and I'm not sure from your article what help these provide.

  3. Where would be the best place to buy an abrasive belt? I am welding an iron stand for my outdoor plants, and I'm unsure of the purpose of an abrasive belt. My plant stands are going to be four feet tall and two feet wide. I hope to display my Geraniums on them.

  4. Is it common to use abrasive belts instead of discs? It looks like it saves a lot of trash. From what I can tell, the belts wore through pretty fast. I am guessing that depends on the brand as well though.

    1. the reason that you use belts is the grain pattern is going in one direction. the disc leave a swirle mark on it that will require another step to clean it up.
      the life will depend on the mineral as well as the tool to get the best performance.

  5. I have recently gotten heavily involved in the 3-D printing as a hobby. Whenever I have a design that I want to make a little more durable, I send the CAD file over to a sheet metal manufacturing firm. They am always satisfied, but the pieces come back unpolished. I wonder if something like this would help clean them up.

      thanks for righting on the blog. there is a lot of ways to come up with the desired finish on most steel. based on your web site that you have many products that are in many sizes and shapes. We can achieve almost any finish from a belt and then to a buff and compound. get me the starting point and the steel that you are using.   6. Well that makes sense with the different types of steel fabrication. I had always wondered why some pieces had those swirls and other didn't.   7. The reason you have swirls is because they used a sanding disc. We get that out by going with a abrasive belts and then a buff. there is a step operation that you have to use to get the desired finish.

    its not a sword the items we are grinding on comes from the dairy manufactures in our state we are showing columns and mixing blades on some of the pictures. when the grinding is done they put it together.

  12. You are very right Jim, fabricating metal is a pretty manly thing to do. I have been looking into it recently, and it is actually a little bit more complicated than you would think.   14. I have a stainless steel kitchen table. I am wondering if I can apply these methods to make it look more new. I have already sanded it a few times, but I need finisher I think to make it look normal again.

If you have a stainless steel table with out to many deep scratches then I would recommend buffing it. use a 4" X 4" X 5/8=11 string buff. put it on a slow but high torque tool. but if you have deep scratches then you have to use a abrasive belt and then blend it in with a 4 X 40PLY X 3/8 SS the arbor would depend on what tool you have or we can sell you this as well. for more help call Cathy P at 262 786 1610

  15. Abrasive belts need to be efficient to help reduce your work time and to work with the steel effectively. I know my brother works with abrasive belts, but I am not entirely sure what kind he uses. I should ask him to learn more about them.

  17. There are a lot of tools that go into metal fabrication. I never thought that they would grind down the sides and make the metal smooth and workable. I will have to see what else goes into metal fabrication. I think it would be nice to learn about what they do to get the metal as strong as it is.
